Prague, the capital city of the Czech Republic, is nicknamed as the City of a Hundred Spires. It is also the largest city of the Czech Republic. The capital city has been a political, cultural and economic centre of central Europe embedded with a rich history that can be traced back to Renaissance and Baroque eras. The city played a major role during both World Wars and post war Communist era as the capital of Czechoslovakia until its peaceful dissolution into the Czech Republic and Slovakia on 1 January 1993. The city has more than ten major museums and it is enriched with numerous theatres, galleries, cinemas and other historical exhibits including Charles University in Prague, the oldest university in Central Europe.
